Multiple Domain Names
Increasingly web site owners are registering more than two or three variations of their domain name.
Why would they bother?
- they want to stop their competitors registering a domain name very similar to their own.
- they want to promote their site in another market such as the UK or NZ. Some country specific search
engines will only accept submissions from sites that end in their country code. e.g. dynamicwebs.co.nz
- they want to put up a second, different site in the same market to attract more hits from search engines.
i.e. the funnel model
- they are concerned people are typing in a variation of their domain name and not getting their site.
e.g. typing dynamicwebsolutions.com.au to get dynamicwebs.com.au
Should you protect your domain in this market
and others by registering variations of your domain
names? Its cheap and you can park and point second
and third domain names to your existing site if
you do not have a web site prepared for the new
domain.
Ideal Referral: a web site owner looking to
expand the reach of their web site in different
countries or to keep competitors at arms length
by surfing up there web presence.
